Acoustic Panels: Maintaining Sound Quality
Acoustic panels are one of the most useful devices in the household especially in an elaborate entertainment system which specializes in sound quality. Many speakers actually advertise to their markets the fact that the qualities of the sound they produce are high end and sophisticated. These advertisements may be true, but sometimes one also has to consider how to get the optimum quality out of these high end devices which may have come from a steep price. Nobody wants anything below their money’s worth.
Acoustic panels function by improving and optimizing the quality of sound by applying the principle of acoustics and sound reflection on the walls and surfaces. Sound tend to bounce on the walls of a room, and while bouncing, or “reflecting”, on the surface of the walls, the effect is generally detrimental on the overall quality of the acoustic. Why? Because of the simple reason that sound is a wave. Waves tend to diminish their frequency the longer they are exposed to particles. If you listen to the sound a thunder makes, the usual perception is that it is low and is “rumbling”. This is actually consistent to the fact that the sound of the lightning hitting the air is very, very far away from the ground, hence the stretching of the waves to a low configuration.
In room acoustics, when the sound bounces off the walls, the “energy” of the sound can be said to have diminished after the contact. Acoustic panels on the walls prevent that from happening by absorbing the unnecessary noise created by the traveling sound, and reflecting it with a surface but not diminishing the overall quality of the sound waves reaching our ears.
